Preamble
We, the AgriPoliS team, are committed to the principles of Open Science and FAIR data. We believe that making our publications, software and data available in a transparent, accessible, and reusable manner is essential to advance scientific knowledge and promote innovation. As such, we are committed to ensuring that our software, data and publications are managed and published in accordance with these principles.
AgriPoliS software is published under the MIT License on GitHub, which allows for the free use, modification, and distribution of the software. When publishing papers based on AgriPoliS, open access must be ensured. In addition, the research data management system AgriPoliS-RDM is available for management and publication of AgriPoliS related data to ensure that our data is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.
Data Management Plan for AgriPoliS-RDM
The purpose of this data management plan is to outline the guidelines for managing and publishing data related to AgriPoliS at IAMO. This plan covers the data classes, specificities, and communities involved in AgriPoliS-RDM. It provides further clarification on storing, backing up, and archiving data. The plan also seeks to promote data sharing and transparency in research while upholding ethical standards and maintaining data privacy and confidentiality.
Terms
Data:
In this plan, data refers to every kind of useful information, including publications, images, datasets, software, and others.
Metadata:
Metadata is the data describing other data, such as author, date, format, and other relevant information.
Record:
A record is a group of metadata with or without additional files.
Community:
A community is a group of records that require review before being published.
Curator:
A curator is a user with a login who is authorized to review and publish a submitted record in a community.
AgriPoliS Inputs:
The whole inputs folder for simulations with AgriPoliS is considered AgriPoliS Inputs.
AgriPoliS Outputs:
The whole outputs folder from AgriPoliS simulations is considered AgriPoliS Outputs.
Guideline to Publishung Records
Currently, AgriPoliS-RDM includes of two main communities: AgriPoliS@IAMO for public data related to IAMO, and AgriPoliS@Restricted for internally used restricted data. Other communities can be created by users with login, and membership is decided by the community owners.
AgriPoliS-RDM distinguishes between different data sources which should be allocated according to the type of data:
The data protection of the respective data source must be strictly adhered to! The responsibility for this lies with the person uploading the data to AgriPoliS-RDM

AgriPoliS RDM allows the entry of AgriPoliS specific metadata like AgriPoliS Version, Region, Scenario, and Project. Careful filling in of this information will allow a more targeted search for other users later on. These fields are especially important for Dataset/AgriPoliS Inputs, Dataset/ AgriPoliS Outputs and Publications.
Curators should check whether the record is in the right community, whether the data should be kept restricted, and whether the metadata is complete and correct. The format of files, such as a single zip file instead of multiple files, should also be reviewed. Curators should not review and publish their own submissions!
Data Sharing and Ethical Considerations
Data sharing is an important part of the research process and helps to promote transparency and collaboration in scientific research. As such, the AgriPoliS RDM project will make all research data available to other researchers, subject to any legal or ethical constraints.
The AgriPoliS team is committed to ensuring that all data shared through AgriPoliS-RDM is done so in accordance with ethical and legal guidelines. To this end, we adhere to IAMOs Code of Research Ethics, which follows the DFG White Paper on "Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice" as well as the Recommendations made by the Leibniz Association for safeguarding good scientific practice and handling complaints concerning scientific misconduct. Users of the AgriPoliS-RDM must ensure that they do not compromise the safety, dignity, or privacy of those with whom they work, conduct research, or carry out other professional activities and that their research does not result in any foreseeable negative consequences. This especially involves obtaining informed consent from participants of (FarmAgriPoliS) experiments, ensuring the privacy and confidentiality of sensitive data, and complying with relevant laws and regulations.
Storing, Backing Up, and Archiving Data
The AgriPoliS-RDM platform will store data on secure, backed-up server maintained by IONOS. IAMOs IT staff will be responsible for maintaining this server and ensuring that they are secure and up-to-date. Data that is no longer actively used or required for research purposes and must be archived for at least ten years. If, for technical or legal reasons, the AgriPoliS-RDM cannot be used for this, the respective data should preferably be archived in the RADAR repository of FIZ Karlsruhe. Alternatively, the data could be archived in a secure storage space (disk devices or long-life-DVD) upon request. The location of the archive will be determined by IAMOs IT staff, taking into account factors such as the size of the data and the expected retention period.

AgriPoliS is a software developed at Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO). It is published under the MIT License on GitHub:AgriPoliS2020
